Best Laid Plans.....
Today didn't go according to plan, but in a good way. We had thought about getting the ferry over to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket; we'd been to MV before so were leaning towards Nantucket, but then talking to the owner of our accommodation he compared Nantucket to 'The Truman Show' where everything is perfect, but not in a good way! In the end we decided on Martha's Vineyard, and set off to Woods Hole near Falmouth to get the ferry. Unfortunately, there was no parking near the ferry so we would have had to park in a lot about five miles away and use the free shuttle bus, by which time we would have missed it. So instead, we went into Falmouth for a look round and then drove down to several beaches along the south of the Cape.
It turned out a good decision. Falmouth was lovely; not too 'touristy' and very pretty. The beaches were wonderful; really quiet and peaceful. We watched Cormorants and seagulls; we saw an eagle land only about 20 feet away from us into where there had been a flock of pigeons seconds before, and I saw a beautiful red bird with a crest on it's head which I'm pretty sure was a Cardinal. I had to make a detour at one point to the opposite side of the road to avoid six turkeys that had decided they would sit on the warm tarmac. And as I was taking a shot of these cormorants drying themselves with Martha's Vinyard in the background, a flock of geese decided to get in on the shot too.
All in all, a great day. Whale watching tomorrow; lets hope we see some.
