On the ward

Two days ago I blipped four men who were playing cards while on the ward waiting for surgery with Facing Africa. Today I met Firenesh (R) and Tiringo (L) who are also waiting for operations. They had been given some stickers and had used them to decorate their faces and hands, and wanted me to take a photo.

Firenesh is a NOMA survivor, now 30 years old. The disease has left her unable to open her mouth properly , which makes it difficult to eat. Tiringo is 11 and has extensive burns contractures since being scalded by boiling water at the age of 4.  She is quite a character!

4 operations today. We ate at the hotel tonight and are preparing for a big operation tomorrow which could last for most of the day.
