London 2012 Day 1
Completely blown away by last nights Opening Ceremony. Huge congratulations to Danny Boyle for creating such an inventive spectacle. So so glad I decided to watch it. An opening ceremony that actually delivered some substance as well as spectacle - superb.
Watching these Olympics is going to be a serious business, so we've got Youngshank's TV downstairs to keep an eye on a couple of channels.
As you can see from what's on Mrs L has the channel changers in her control. Can't say I'm convinced on the role tennis has in the Olympics and even though I'm a huge Andy Murray fan these early rounds don't really appeal. Shame though that Andy and Jamie had a first-round exit against Austria's Jurgen Melzer and Alexander Peya, while on the other screen Anne Keothavong lost to Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark. Fortunately though Elena Baltacha progressed to the next round.
In Olympics "proper" the cycling men's road race (why when there's a professional cycling circuit am I happy that's in the Olympics and not tennis?) it seemed that everyone ganged up on the Brits to ensure Mark Cavendish didn't get his favourite's chance in a final sprint finish. It's a tough job having to interview a defeated favourite at the end of a race, but an attempt to lift the questions above the banal "How are you feeling?" would have been a start and may have solicited a better response.
