Peristyle, Diocletian's Palace, Split
Moored up yesterday evening at a delightful little port called Rogoznica and wish we could have stayed longer. Really pretty harbour and promenade and such a clean town, as are most of the smaller ports along this coast.
Today we sailed to our final destination, Split, Croatia's second largest city. It is centred on the Roman Palace of the Emperor Diocletian, which is more like a fortress than a palace, although it does have many beautiful buildings and squares within its walls.
The photo is of an area called the Peristyle which hosts many concerts and shows, with the audience sitting on the stone steps. Split was quite a culture shock after the sleepy little fishing ports of the Dalmatian islands as it had so much history crammed into quite a small area and loads of tourist parties being shown around. Half a day here was not nearly enough to see everything!
The ship was moored right in the centre of the city and we expected a noisy evening, but it was the quietest night and calmest sea of the whole voyage:-)
