Just a parrot's life

By ellenparrots

I am in the Linda Magazine this month!

The LINDA magazine is out! I am very proud to see myself in this beautiful and glossy Dutch magazine. The redaction changed some things in the text of the interview and now there is the quote that the playtree I have for Tommy cost me 2000 euro. LOL.. not true.. That was meant to explain the costs of the total playtrees, toys etc. Oh well.. it is okay. I am proud!!

Here a quick translation of the Dutch text: “Mickey was the first parrot with her own bank account. And the first parrot with Cushings disease, a metabolic disorder. CT scans, visiting avian specialists, clinic in and out, after I already lost about 7000 euro I started a crowdfunding, For the Love of Mickey. About 50 people donated money, totally about 1500 euro. This way she could be treated and live for more than a year. Since I started to live on my own (age 21) I live in a small apartment. I could have bought a house with a garden, if I didn’t spent a lot of money on my parrots. I have a special connection with my grey parrot Tommy. When my dad died he felt my sorrow and plucked his breast feathers. Also because of a wrong toy once, he has a beak problem. Another visit to the avian specialist. Two times per week I trim his beak, took me months of training. Last February Tommy got very sick and was hospitalized for 3 days. The costs of Tommy’s healthcare are already about 6000 euro by now. To cheer him up he got a new playtree. Total amount of playtrees here with all the toys and stuff, about 2000 euro.
The bond with a bird is much more special than the bond with a human. People can hurt you badly, but a bird cannot hurt your soul. <3
