Princes Square

Went through to Glasgow this morning for a day of sightseeing before meeting up with Susan's old school friend this evening. We're staying overnight with them and having a second day in the city tomorrow.

The railway journey between the two cities is very scenic once you get out of the environs of Edinburgh and before you reach Glasgow. Even better if the weather is good as it was today.

The blip today is of Princes Square on Buchanan Street, now covered in, this was once an open square with offices on all sides. Now it is a place for eating, drinking and shopping. When Susan lived in Glasgow in the 60s and 70s her dad worked in one of the offices whose windows are in this shot. She left Glasgow with her parents in 1977 and moved to Kent. Her dad died in 1979 which makes visiting his place of work and indeed Glasgow very poignant.

From Princes Square we walked to the Hunterian Museum at the University of Glasgow to see the Charles Rennie MacKintosh rooms. Lots to see around that part of Glasgow and a pleasant walk through Kelvingrove Park.

The next destination was the Tenement House on Buccleuch Street. A "middle class" tenement this house was largely unchanged from the 53 years Miss Toward lived there until her death in 1973.

Finally we caught a train out to Scotstounhill to meet up with friends for the evening and overnight stay.
