Chain Lane

We tend to look at the world at eye level and surprisingly few people notice what is above or even at ground level. One of the joys of photography is that it makes us look beyond the obvious.

Returning from a shopping trip through an old part of Newport I saw this old street sign high up on a house wall. It has suffered the ravages of time and probably has not been replaced either because no-one has noticed it or it is not worth the time and trouble.
Even in this condition I still feel it is preferable to the modern versions.
