Malleny Millgate, Balerno, Mid Lothian

A quick trot around a favourite walk to Threipmuir and Harlaw reservoirs in the shadow of the Pentland Hills this morning. Weather remains fine and clear with good views all around including the Firth of Forth which has a little mist around the coast.

Time to tidy up the house and make sure it was all as we found it then we caught the 44 into Edinburgh for lunch before catching the train back to Kent. Called in at Pizza Hut for their buffet which proved to be good value and filling. Interesting to watch people though. Amongst the groups were three young men, students I think, who were eating their way through many slices of pizza, eating the topping but leaving the crusts in a huge pile. They also took a whole pizza from the buffet for their table. The servers were not pleased but kept an eye on them and amended their bill when they tried to help themselves to ice cream without paying.

A marvellous journey back to Kings Cross, light until past York which was the last stop before London. Superb scenery both sides of the train between Edinburgh and Newcastle in the bright, sunny late afternoon light. When we arrived in London the guard was announcing that the the two passengers who should have changed at York for Doncaster and Peterborough should go to Platform 1!

Unfortunately the train was 10 minutes late arriving in London which scuppered our chances of catching an earlier train back from Victoria to Bearsted, we tried but arrived at Victoria 15 seconds after departure but only had to wait 25 minutes for the next (booked) train which had no first class seats, so for the final hour we had to slum it!

A great few days away, always sorry to have to leave Edinburgh, and really enjoyed Glasgow. Another trip is in order.
