Krásná Praha
Today has been great right from the start, when a couple of wrong turns ended up being the right moves. As Katy would no doubt testify, I was definitely not first in the queue when the map reading skills were being handed out. So, I turned left out of the hotel instead of right, and went on for a bit before realising what I'd done. But not before finding a fantastic little cafe that did the best coffee I've ever had, with a choice of size, type and even blend (the barista chose well!), and a gorgeous pastry - no idea what was in it as she didn't know the English word for it and my Czech is almost non-existent...
The next wrong turn took me to the train station - so now I can walk instead of paying an absolute fortune for a taxi as I did last night :-)
From there I walked down to Wenceslas Square, where the jolt of recognition was almost like a blow from Batman - KA-BLAM! And from there to the Old Town Square. It wasn't as I remembered it though - last time I was here there was a huge market. I suspect it was nearer Christmas, as I got some lovely baubles.
Speaking of, you'll be disappointed to learn that I haven't found the local sex shops. However, I did see Thai massage for 8 euros and the sex machines museum...
And apart from that I've tootled in the sunshine, sat down for a bit then tootled some more. Had an iced coffee opposite the Divadlo Hybernia (no, I've no idea what it is either, but they are advertising Swan Lake outside) and people watched.
I'm back here this evening for dinner and more watching of the masses. I'm in a strappy dress and there are people wearing scarves. I kid you not!
I was torn over which photo to blip tonight - the aforementioned astronomical clock, which is one of my favourite sights and one I was particularly looking forward to seeing again, or my favourite building in the whole of Prague. It won :-) If I'm honest with you, I can't even remember the history behind it, but it's so beautifully painted that it stands out in my memory even from the rest if this marvellous city. If you've never been, I would highly recommend it. And if you have, why haven't you been back yet??

ps profound thought for the day from an American teenager: "modern art is just stuff which is modern". Ahem...
