Cape Cod Highland Light - back blip
We spent the day on Cape Cod, MA, visiting lighthouses and enjoying the scenic island. I am sharing the Cape Cod Highland Lighthouse. Based on information I gathered on line, "this is Cape Cod's oldest Lighthouse and it sits 120 feet above the ocean in the Highlands of Truro. Its beam shines 174 feet above sea level to give mariners warning of the treacherous sandbars off this shore." We also saw the Chatham, Nauset, and Nobska Lighthouses before heading back to Plymouth for the night. We tried to go out to the Wood End Light near Provincetown that is reached by walking 1.5 miles on uneven breakwater rocks and then 1/3 mile where you are stepping or jumping from boulder to boulder. After getting about 1/3 of the way on the uneven breakwater, I'd had enough so we turned around. While at Provincetown, we saw the spot where the Mayflower passengers first set foot on American soil so the trip to the tip of Cape Cod was not lost.
