2016 Tuesday -- In-class Essays

Two classes this morning back-to-back have all written in-classes essays, so my agenda now includes grading these wonders. The writers are community college students who did not qualify for Freshman Composition, so they are in a basic writing class developing their reading and writing skills. Most of them are also developing their skills of functioning as adults. They are learning that they have to show-up on time; that they have to submit their work when it's due; and that they have to do the work according to the assignment instructions. I have no idea why they did not learn this knowledge in the K-12 system, but most did not.

I have hope that some of them have caught an itty-bitty desire to do more than attend school, but truly value it and what they can gain from actively engaging.

I'm hoping their essays will reveal that.
