Plastic Fantastic...
Backblip
No I didn't take an out of focus shot, that's plastic on the front of the bookcase. And over the sofas, curtains, coffee table, TV, lamps etc etc. I texted a photo of our living room with all its plastic protectors on to three friends and they all replied saying it looked like I was preparing it for a grisly murder. That thought hadn't even entered my head. Says something about the quality of the company I keep! ;-))
Well today it all got a bit farcical at 1pm when my friend Louise turned up in a large van with her daughter and daughter in law, to pick up our old kitchen. Her daughter wanted it for her new house.
David and I were eating the world's smallest toasties (well what can you expect when the toastie maker cost £8 from Tesco. An emergency purchase when I realised our toastie maker had been packed) when they knocked on the door. The workmen had also stopped for lunch but we had to ask them to move one of their vans to let Louise get her van in as there was no way the kitchen cupboards and all the granite could be carried any distance. I stayed out of the way.
The workmen are so lovely that they all volunteered to help, even though it was the first proper break they'd had in a very physical morning. The hardest part was moving the island, which still had the granite attached, but they managed it.
In the middle of doing this the skip lorry arrived to remove the very full skip that is positioned rather close to the house. The skip driver had to wait till Louise's van was full and she headed off. Then began the very tricky manoeuvre getting the skip on the back of the lorry. I am so glad I couldn't see what was happening.
Meanwhile, H, the big boss, had arrived to meet with David and I to go over some decisions that need to be made and to discuss some snagging items. He's been on holiday so there was quite a bit to catch up with.
He came in but there was no sign of David. He hadn't seen him outside either. Hmmmm....where could he be? We decided he couldn't be far and started the meeting without him. He turned up 20 minutes later. Turns out Johnny the foreman had asked him to check something in the kitchen and while he was in there, the skip lorry had come in the driveway, which blocked his only way back to the front door (no access from the kitchen into the hallway at the moment) He just had to wait till the skip lorry had gone.
We had a good meeting with H and although there is a potential problem on the horizon (gas and water pipes being very close to the position of the new doorway into the kitchen) things are moving ahead at pace.
In all the excitement I forgot to defrost our dinner so a chinese takeaway it had to be whilst watching the final of the Great British Bake Off. Well done Candice. Had you down as the winner from the start :-)
