Sweet Chestnut

I spotted a sweet chestnut tree so here are the chestnuts nestling in their spiky cases. Apparently the trees only begin to fruit after 25 years so they're quite a long term project to grow. I thought that they were native but have found out that they were introduced by the Romans.

They'll be a tasty meal for the squirrels and jays and of course are one of the tastes of a certain upcoming festival.
