Sad news for Exeter

This was the view from campus today. A fire blazed all day in buildings on Cathedral Green and a couple of buildings have been destroyed. Most of Exeter's lovely old buildings were bombed out in the blitz but a few survived. Unfortunately one of those buildings, the Royal Clarence Hotel, which dates back to 1769 has been completely gutted.

No-one was hurt as everyone got out quickly when the blaze started up around 5am, but it is such a shame that this building has been lost.
