VIEW UPON THE SOLLING FOREST
The Weser streams in a valley, and at both sides there are large forests.
At the side where we live the valley it is called The Solling, and at the other side, from where I took this picture, the forest is called The Reinhardswald.
In both forests there are so many paths to explore. Some go higher up the hills, some stay close to the river. Sometimes the views are blocked by high trees and bushes, even the views that are indicated on the maps,
do not always longer exist.
In the Reinhardswald there lay a riddle for us, and we have certainly many years looked for the solution. And what is that riddle?
On the map one sees a long straigt line with the name Himmelsleiter near it. Staircase to heaven, It has intrigued us from the beginning.
Our neighbour had told us, that is had been concealed by the authorities because it had become too dangerous to climb. But where was it located?
We have often looked, not only when we walked in the Reinhardswald, but also from the other sight of the river, seaking an indication.
It happened today again. We walked the path where somewhere the Himmelsleiter should have crossed it. Could it be here? or there?
And suddenly to our big surprise, there was this amazing stone stairs, going 25 meter high as as was indicated on a big stone at the beginning.
The stairs led to a quarry, now deserted. I imagine I can climb up, but probably would find descending much too frightening.
On our walk we also found the horses Beauty and Paule in a large meadow, we went to greet them and brought them apples that we found on the ground. Long time no see. They recognized us, of course.
I have given DonnaWanna, pkln, dfb24, and loisbiz a heart for their silly pictures, and later in the evening I can give one to BVFL33.
Tomorrow I'll give my last ones.
