Exploring Together the Grandeur of Nature
Continuing our exploration of the overwhelming beauty of Cades Cove in the fall. The Cove is the site of a small early 19th century frontier community in the Great Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. The little settlement existed until the mid 20th century when the families were forced from their homes and farms for the development of the national park. All that remains now of the old family homesites are their 19th century cabins, their old churches, the fields where they once worked, and the cemeteries.
We stopped beside this meadow over which the Smokies stand against the fall sky. We noticed to our right, an older couple sitting together in camp chairs, holding hands, silent.
They need not explain. The setting and their presence is explanation enough.
Fall colors wash over the mountains and the valleys and all a mortal can do is stand in awe and appreciation.
We did.
For this entry, I'm adding a few extra photos. A photo of one of the old log cabin homes, a picture of one of the remaining churches, and an image of one of the several cemeteries.
Now it's back down to Chattanooga and the final game of the U.S. Baseball World Series.
