Bald Eagle

A Long Time Coming

Over the last two weeks work has been going on in the bell tower to complete the work of installing the bells. The bells have been hanging there for over 5 months now while the mortar in the stonework of the tower cures.

The sound control has been completed for which our neighbours I am sure will be truly thankful. Bells now have the ropes attached and all the clearances have been checked. This meant that all the bells have been rung individually. Our bell hanger, who is acknowledged as a world leading expert in his field, is now off to do some work in America for the next two weeks and when he returns he will come back to our tower to complete the work.

We have a date of the 24 Nov penciled in for a test ring of all ten bells. If the architect signs it off we will then be able to ring our bells.

The 30th Oct marked 2 years of learning bell ringing. Last week most of the members of our novice band came together for our monthly practice. Some of it sounded "not bad". With continued help from the local branch of the guild of bellringers we should just about be able to get by. And who knows in another 40 years we may become "quite good".
