Weaving
Today being Saturday, we had an outing in the minibus. Many of the team had never been to Addis before, so it was good to see a few of the city sights. Even for those returning, there is always something new to discover...we went up into the Entoto Hills where the air is clear and the slopes are covered in tall forests of eucalyptus, which is harvested for firewood, charcoal and scaffolding poles. It is carried down to the city in huge bundles on the backs of women, who are almost bent double under their burdens. On our way home, Gro took us to visit The Retired Fuel Carriers' Association. here, when the women can no longer work, they are thought to weave beautiful scarves. We visited a shed full of metal looms where D tried his hand at weaving, and the shop selling scarves, where everyone got very excited and many Christmas gift problems were instantly solved.
