Superlative Bologna
For lovers of Superlative Walks, two undoubted superlatives today. This is a shot along Via Zamboni, in the University District of Bologna, the oldest university in the world. Also, in the massive Basilica di San Petronio (fifth largest church in the world) is this sundial - the largest church-based sundial in the world.
Other visits today included a couple of hours at the MAMbo (Bologna Museum of Modern Art) famous for its collection of the work of local painter Georgio Morandi. The collection includes his numerous still-life paintings of groups of bottles, representing people and families, including this one - the final painting he completed before he died and which the curator said was his best.
And, oh yes, also at MAMbo today was the touring exhibition on the life and work of David Bowie, which we didn't know was on in Bologna until we arrived. We have narrowly missed it twice and it was well worth the wait. Strictly no photos allowed inside.
I also climbed the Torre degli Asinelli, all 498 steps of it, for some dizzying views across the City and through tiny windows, which had accumulated lots of small coins.
