Calocera viscosa

Yellow Staghorn

Always a welcome splash of colour especially on a day that got duller and duller, this wood rotting fungi is mere millimetres tall - but so vibrant that it's hard to miss. The forecast snow finally arrived - but only after it had gone dark, hopefully we'll wake up to a winter wonderland tomorrow.

I took another photo today, but that was too sad for blip - one of the little red squirrels, despite being a bundle of nut stealing energy, appears to have pox. I don't know enough about this terrible disease to be sure, so I've been in touch with Cumbria Wildlife Trust's Red Squirrel Officer, sent them a photograph, hopefully we'll find out tomorrow, but if it is, it's certainly very sad news.
