Gifts of Grace

By grace

Welcome

I read this tweet from Daniel Goleman [he of Emotional Intelligence and Vital Lies, Simple Truths] on the eve of the US election.

"An emotional leader is likely to have a knack for acting as a limbic "attractor," exerting a palpable force on the emotional brains of others."

We feel that force even half a world away.  And we do not know how that will play out, how it will continue to influence our world over the coming years.  I think it is being confronted with the truth of this cell-deep uncertainty that scares us most.

The mind, fuelled by limbic resonance, amplified by media of every sort conjures memories held deep in our tissues and bones.  Projects repetition onto the future.  This is natural.  And painful.  And necessary.  And deeply depressing.

But it is not necessarily true.  We do not know what will come.  We know what we fear but we do not know what may come.  I wrote about this at length in a series of posts around the time of the EU referendum.

I'm too tired and out of sorts from loss of sleep watching the results roll in to write any more coherently.  For now I wish us all rest and peace and kindness, especially those living more directly in the eye of this particular storm.  Xx

PS.  11/11/16 Wise words on Brexit etc (not mine).
