A Spring Calf in Autumn Leaves
Yesterday you told me that you wanted more pictures of calves and cows - so I have listened, and today I blip my son C's pet calf. I blipped this wee calf on the 5th August, not long after she was born. The boys were allowed to each get one straw of semen of a breed of calf that they chose to be inseminated in their pet cow. C's cow is a full friesan, and he decided to inseminate her with semen from an Ayrshire. So this little beauty is half friesan and half Ayrshire, although she looks like she has thrown more to the friesan. I love those big black circles around her eyes.
Today we took the calves and put them in a paddock. What fun they had running around - it is wonderful watching them. We have a lovely sunny day, and the calves really appreciated sitting out in the paddock, soaking up the warmth of the sun.
We had a surprise visit from my Mum and Dad today, who came down from Nelson for the day. Mum brought lunch, and lots of home made baking to fill my cake tins. She's a great cook, and I really appreciate her thoughtfulness when we are so busy on the farm. There is nothing like home baking!
