Snow on the Paps of Jura
6.8C with rain al morning then clearing through the afternoon. Moderate SSW/WSW/W breeze.
Apothecary7's day off. Actually Apothecary7's week off !
We had a quiet morning at home then decided to go to Glenbarr for lunch. The roads had a lot of standing water at the sides and some of the fields in low lying areas had flooding. There were bright patches in the sky out at sea and we could see snow on the tops on Islay and Jura as we drove North through Bellochantuy.
After lunch and hoping for the rain to break we went up to A'Cleit. The rain was lighter so we did manage to take some photos but it wasn't dry enough to take Maeve the Deerhound for a walk.
However, as we headed back South, the rain did clear and although there were some squalls out at sea we got the rest of the afternoon dry. We stopped at Westport beach and took Maeve for a walk. We passed two surfers who were coming back to the car park as we made our way onto the sand. The burn that runs down the beach near the car park had a lot of water in it today and we had to use stepping stones to cross. Maeve just waded. Then further along the beach we could see two more surfers out in the water. When we got nearer them we stopped to take some photos.
We did walk a bit further along the beach, but today the second burn that runs across the sand to the sea had cut a deep channel in the sand and the waves were running up the channel as they came up the beach so it wouldn't have been at all easy to cross. For months now the burn has hardly been visible at all and through the main summer months it has dried up so walking the length of the beach was easier. We wandered back along to the car park. As we passed where the surfers were, one of them came out of the water and approached Apothecary7 and asked if we had photos of them with the mountains on Jura in the background. We had a quick flick through the pictures on screen and there were a few she seemed to like so we got her email address to send them off later (done).
Later Apothecary7 was painting.
Afternoon telly ... Autumn test match. Rugby Union. Scotland v Argentina.
There had been Wales v Japan - but it was finished by the time we got home. A win for Wales.
