A host of sulphur tufts
Sulphur tuft Hypholoma fasciculare mushrooms make a living by breaking down wood. They aren't fussy eaters and enjoy the stumps of broadleaf and coniferous trees and occasionally they will attack living trees, as here.
Sulphur tufts are bitter and inedible. Although only very rarely fatal, poisoning is occasionally reported, resulting in severe symptoms, including stomach pains and nausea, temporary paralysis and distorted vision.
The "extra" cloudy offering was taken later in the day as Mrs T and I promenaded along the estuary.
