a walk in the woods
On the east shore of Thirlmere.
We went to investigate the pedestrian underpass that's been built (at considerable cost) under the A591 between Grasmere and Keswick. It's supposed to stop people having to cross the busy road but there are two problems. First it isn't signposted from the car parks. Secondly, if you park in the free lay-by 100 metres away (as we do) you have to cross the road to get to it (assuming you know it's there). The alternative is to walk on the road as we saw a man and his dog doing.
