A keen frost again today. A morning of the usual animal related problems. Nipped away for the afternoon to the Lothian Beef Group visit to a nearby Beef unit. This farm is part of a larger estate and has a huge big new cattle shed, handling system and silage pit. They also have and endless supply of bedding straw from the arable units, which they turn in to dung which then goes back onto the arable fields as fertilizer so completing the cycle. Was very impressed by the sheds and acres of concrete, very different to us mere present farmers !
When I got back tonight had to spend time milking out last nights calved cow and bottle feeding the calf as the daft bugger won't suck the cow yet. Nature is determined to kill it off but I have other ideas!
This was the frosty sky this morning. Bet it was colder than -4 up there
