Huge Electronics Store
B&H Photo in Manhattan, with ca. 2000 employees and what seems like a small football field of sales area on two floors. I was there for a number of items, in part to replace things stolen in Italy on our last European trip. It is superbly organized, with pleasant and very competent salespeople (the counter here is for camera bodies and lenses only). They find your order by computer, the item is retrieved from their warehouse down below and shipped to the checkout area, where you pay and pick it up. Incredibly efficient.
Between lunch and dinner with friends I visited the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) briefly, seeing mainly exhibitions of photos by Nan Goldin and Bauhaus photo-collages by Josef Albers. Leaving MoMA on West 53rd Street I passed three carts purveying large quantities of middle eastern Halal food--you see two of them in the extra.
(The map shows the location of the Halal carts)
