Benefit
There was a good turnout at the Festival Theatre for the Dick Gaughan benefit - over a thousand punters I think. It was a splendid show musically as well, particularly the contributions from Karine Polwart and Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain. And of course the splendid Billy Bragg, here singing Dick's "Both Sides the Tweed" with Phil Cunningham behind him listening closely.
As we were leaving I heard some Edinburgh grey-beards saying that it had been a good concert, "but," said one in apparent amazement, "Billy Bragg - an English Socialist?" I wasn't able to hear any more....
