Worker

The Rower and I attended the General meeting of the Friends of Belair NP today, and I forgot my keys.  So while we were waiting for someone else to turn up, we saw this little wasp beavering away.  I thought he was nest building, but on looking at this, I don't think he was.  I think he was digging out material to build a nest elsewhere.

He's not your normal paper wasp, or your normal mud wasp.  Much smaller and prettier.  And before anyone takes me up on that, yes, I do believe wasps can be pretty!

Edit: An acquaintance on Facebook in a group I belong to said this : Wow. I think that's Paralastor sp. but I thought that they were just mud wasps in Vespidae. This one may well be involved in hybrid mud/paper construction, and as such would be a living missing link between the potters and paper makers. Please keep filming.

So I shall go back tomorrow and see if she is still there.
