Carnitas Man

I know I have spoken of the amazing treat called carnitas for which Quiroga is famous (July 13th entry). I even featured the same vendor in that day's entry, but today's shot shows off his personality much better. With so many vendors lined up - there are a dozen carts in a row on the main road from Morelia at the top of the town square - how do you select from whom to buy. You pick the friendliest, most outgoing and José of Carmelos Carnitas is certainly that. Like everyone else on carnitas row, he offers free samples to all who pass (many times while filling an order), but he does it with such enthusiasm that you feel compelled to buy from him. Today, instead of tortas we purchased a medio kilo para llevar. The heavenly aroma tempted us into taking small samples the entire 25 minute ride back to the house.
