County Hall

This is Sessions House which is the headquarters of Kent County Council. It was built in 1824 and designed by Sir Robert Smirke in the Greek Revival style and in 1973 it was listed Grade II by English Heritage. The pale blue pennants and red banner celebrate London 2012.

Traditionally the "sessions" were courts which tried cases which could not be dealt with my magistrates and for many years there was a gibbet on the corner of the square in front of Sessions House.
