The Sally Army Brass Band.

In 1878, Charles Fry and his three sons formed a brass quartet which played during the early Salvationist's outdoor meetings. William Booth came to hear of them and started to use them in his own campaign. As other instruments were added, they became known as 'The Hallelujah Minstrels' and 'The Happy Band.' The first Salvationist's  Corps band was formed in  Consett, County Durham, December1879. A rich repertoire of music was adapted, arranged and composed for them. Many leading Brass Band composers and players once had roots or close links with the Salvation Army. This local band can often be seen and heard playing their rousing music around Cambridge, whilst collecting for charity. I really like Brass Band music and often take a picnic with a friend, to listen to summer concerts in various parks and college gardens.
