Honister Pass from Honister Slate Mine
This view is from the very top of Honister Pass taken outside the Honister Slate Mine, the only working slate mine remaining in England.
We decided to have a quiet day today, easy on the girls' feet, and so visited this having read a leaflet about it in our cottage. Well what a fantastic thing it is! Well worth a visit for anyone in the area. They even had my littlest singing 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' in front of a small crowd in a cavern they plan to use as a performance space of some kind!
This shot shows the beautiful, classic 'U' shape of a glacial valley. The drumlins on the slope behind the picture are quite something.
