Do you like milestones?

Modern day biz speak lays great emphasis on reaching your milestones. Blip has many milestones itself, the first 100 blips, 365 blips, 500 and so on. It may have been the Romans who invented the original milestones, so they could lay them along their wonderfully straight roads. The central milestone in their great empire was the Golden milestone in Rome, long since lost.

In England, all roads lead from Charing Cross in the centre of London, although, why it should be precisely there and not, say, Big Ben, or Oxford Circus or 43 Wimpole Street?

Their heyday in the UK was during the time of the Toll Roads, where monies were collected to maintain said roads at tollgates. These fell into disuse as the railways were introduced and nobody used the roads! Local authorities took over the maintenance, waiting for the day when road tolling could be re-introduced by a government of the 21st century perhaps?

Hopefully not:)

Anyway, here's one I saw earlier.
