Deerfield River--Summer
This is a bend in the river, in Deerfield Mass., about four miles (6 km) from where it joins the mighty Connecticut River to the north, which in turn flows south to Long Island Sound. The road is very close to the river at this point, and there is a barrier of small rock visible at the right, which extends for 100-150 meters. It might be meant to inhibit a further meander toward the road, but that seems implausible since it's so high above the water level.
This is all in the Pioneer Valley defined by the Connecticut River; we're about 15 mile (25 km) north of Northampton. I've put it in my reflections series.
