American Goldfinch

It's a mature male American Goldfinch (Carduelis tristis), pretty much as bright as they come. (It was nearly midday, but I've mitigated the contrast a bit--note the shadow of the bill on the branch.)

We're staying for a couple of days with old friends in the Hudson Valley about two hours from New York (a bit north of Rhinebeck).
