Compare & Contrast . . .

Amish quilt (left) and Welsh quilt side by side. The Welsh quilt is early C19th, the Amish quilt early C20th. There seems to be a connection. In her lecture Bettina Havig thought it might have been Pennsylvanian clothes lines! It's interesting how women practising domestic arts anticipated works of much later artists including colour use. Seen at Festival of Quilts, NEC. Birmingham UK.
