Great Orme

Today's the day ....................... to look across

This is the view looking eastwards across the Menai Straits from the island of Anglesey to Llandudno on the north coast of Wales.  The town itself snuggles behind a great lump of limestone that juts out into the sea known as the Great Orme.  I've never been there but I believe it's an area of very interesting plants, insects and other wildlife.

It's also famous for another intriguing reason.  In 1987, during a scheme to landscape an area of the Great Orme, copper mines were discovered.  They represent one of the most astounding archaeological discoveries of recent times. They date back 4,000 years to the Bronze Age and they changed views about the ancient people of Britain and their civilized and structured society 2,000 years before the Roman invasion.  They are thought to be the largest prehistoric mine, so far discovered in the world.

Well worth a visit I would imagine .....................
