Saturday: Railroading

We went into town today to meet Joyce for lunch. Joyce is from Calgary and is currently in town visiting family.

We met Joyce, and her daughter, two and a half years ago when we were on holiday in KorĨula. We were sitting at adjacent tables in the restaurant and got chatting. We then became Facebook friends and obviously had no idea that two and a half years later we would be meeting up here in Canada.

We had a nice lunch and got on well, particularly considering it was only the second time we had met. We were eating in a place not far from these rail tracks.

I have forgotten to update you on my latest read, The New Yorker's 'Fifties: Stories Of A Decade', a compendium of New Yorker writing from that decade. It was fantastic, so rich in variety and subject matter. It had essays, reportage, poetry (including Sylvia Plath's first New Yorker poem) and fiction from such greats as John Updike, Roald Dahl and Philip Roth.
