les halles

Pierre and I went to Avignon this morning. We warmed up with a hot chocolate at a cafe beside the Palais des Papes and, when we came outside, there was a guy singing Christmas songs, standing in the sunlight just in front of the entrance to the Palais. He was singing in English and sounded amazing. Pierre and I walked towards him to give him some money and had a wee slow dance in the middle of the square! :)

We then made our way to Les Halles which is Avignon's indoor market. It was like my heaven on earth! Full of stalls selling amazing charcuterie, baked goods, seafood, fruit & veg, pasta, aperitif stuff, you name it. There were also several little bars dotted around the place so after wandering about for over an hour, looking at all the amazing food, we bought some stuff and sat down at one of the bars to eat. Delicious! And what a brilliant atmosphere. The photos just don't do it justice.

I can't wait to go back once I've had the baby and buy lots of pâté and smelly, soft cheese :)
