Observation Post

Imagine a grey winter’s day, much like today but 75 years ago. Three observers are in place, not necessarily men because in 1941 women were allowed to join the Royal Observer Corps. The Royal bit was new that year too. One of them would have a heavy pair of naval binoculars, the second a plotting tool to ascertain the height and direction of the aircraft seen and the third would be in radio contact to report sightings.

The job must have been boring on a grey day with poor visibility but they’d no doubt remember that it was a day much like this when a Meschersmitt 110 was observed near Glasgow, it was carrying Rudolph Hess and he was seen parachuting out and was later captured.

I blipped this construction some time back. It's just outside the village on the golf course(that's the clubhouse in the background). Since then I've found out more about the observation post and a bunker which is nearby but capped over. My extra shot shows the view they would have had but they'd have had a little more height.
