Just a parrot's life

Visit to the avian specialist

So... today we went to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (birds and other exotic animals) in Utrecht. We had an appointment with THE dr. Yvonne van Zeeland (avian specialist), lots of you know her because of the fact that she diagnosed and treated my sennie Mickey who had Cushings disease. Had to be there at 11AM. Yvonne was very busy and so we decided to do the CT scan first and than she would examine Paulie further. In between she had other pets to take care off so it was a long visit for me and the quakers.. because we were ready at 3:30PM, than to the pharmacy over there and the meds had to be prepared so another half an hour waiting before we could drive home. Oh well, all for the birds, right?
On the CT scan all Paulies organs looked very good, he was in good shape etc. What she did see is white spots in the main blood vains. Not good. Also because Paulies blood contains too much cholesterol (in birds max is about 10, but Paulie had 12.5) she is quite sure he is troubling with (avian) Atherosclerosis (see: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/259162231_Avian_Atherosclerosis_Parrots_and_Beyond). Paulie will be treated for this and I have two different meds, trying to see how he responds on them.
Meds are called Atorvastatine and Pentoxifylline (don't ask me what it does exactly but more birds are treated with this for the Atherosclerosis. Hope and pray this will help Paulie with this issue.
Dr. Yvonne loved Mr and Mrs Quaker, she too saw how they love each other so much. <3
