Quiraing
We knew we would have to be prompt getting up as there are only 2 ferries on a Sunday back to Skye.
Was a bit of a misty/breezy start to the day. Made packing the tent entertaining.
Made the morning ferry in good time (5 mins to spare!) . Again about 10 cars waiting. Not sure where all these folk went to on Raasay cos we never saw them.
We had decided to head to "real" campsite north of Portree, the capital. I was keen to see the Olympic 100m semis and finals. C wasn't too fussed. But happy to go along with this (blackmailed with the promise of wine and a nice meal in town.
Pitched the tent before heading towards Staffin to check out Kilt Rock.
We had scouted out a walk to the Quiraing.
Kilt Rock was ok but the grey light didn't do it any favours.
Stopped at the Arts Cafe nearby for lunch which had recently been opened up by a friendly Northern Irish guy.
Good food and chat.
Heading into the hills, we soon got below the cloud ceiling. But boy, this place is spectacular. Lots of scrambling up steep hills though narrow gaps between sheer rock buttresses. Cracking short walk.
So Portree for a night in "big smoke".
Watched the 100m semis in a soul-less pub with some interesting locals! But the pint was well deserved.
As promised, C go her meal and wine a bar restaurant. Were still in as the final was starting.
The whole place stopped. Even C was getting excited.
After watching the semi, the inevitable outcome happened. Usain won.
