What a lovely day:-

the Sulby River

If at first glance you consider this river, which is at the end of our lane, to have the appearance of a canal, then you would not be wrong.

The meandering course of the river was straightened out in 1946 when men and machinery became available after the war.

The aim was to prevent flooding.  In that it did not really succeed because the river still floods.

Salmon used to come up the river when it was in spate but unfortunately I have not seen any for many years.

A lovely day to ride one's bicycle - and get a puncture!
