Man is born free .....
I think it must have been while he was at Euston Station, queuing for the 10.20 to Manchester that the philosopher Jean-Jaques Rousseau (1712-78) came up with the immortal phrase “Man is born free, but everywhere he is in trains”.
Had he been travelling to Manchester up the M6 instead, he might have been tempted to change the last word to ’cars’.
We took Ma-in-Law home today by car, thinking that another train journey might be a bit too much for her. So instead, subjected her - and ourselves - to the nightmare that is the M6. I never want to see it again.
Rather than blip endless queues of traffic, I decided on the Manchester Outer Ring Road (M60) which shows vehicles actually moving.
