Coughing and spluttering

Time to kill in the examining room waiting for the Doc. Trying to figure out precisely what atmospheric gunk bothers me enough to make me cough.
Of course, since there's no cure for allergies, the best solution is to live in a bubble, or at least keep the windows closed and the a/c on. Neither will work for me. Love to have the windows open, especially in the car. Perhaps a dust mask? Could scare the neighbors at traffic lights. Might be fun - I can get one with a skull & crossbones.
