The Centre of Middle Earth

This morning we walked to the top of Botanical Hill in Nelson to be at the centre of New Zealand.  There is some debate about where the real centre is.  The information board at the top told me this point is the origin point of the Nelson land district and Nelson is the central land district amongst 12 other land districts, hence the centre of New Zealand.  The walk up the zig zag track was a good thing to do before there is more consumption of food tonight.  Excellent views of Nelson also.  
The walkers in the photo were one of the many groups of people who tackled the hill.  The old tree trunk on the right of the picture has been carved and written on it is 'Peace . . . Love = Health'
