Blippers blipped
Happy New Year, Blippers all!
Fireworks on the beach at midnight and once again, with digital daze and barrioboy, among others - good to have them back for a while. The liners standing off from the shore, ablaze with lights, were a magnificent backdrop to the display (good, but four minutes shorter this year due to Rio's dire finances). Hurricane Maria brought her husband, two children (who look bored and unimpressed - or maybe just tired and shy), sister and brother-in-law. Many of our party set up a canopy half-way down the beach and settled in for the duration. The rest of us went back to the house shortly after midnight for a few more drinks and nibbles. Maria and Co came back too and while her family went off to sleep, M whizzed round clearing up like a thing possessed. After the others went home, I helped till I was ready to drop, then put the lights out to make her stop. I don't know if she managed an hour or two's sleep - they were crammed into two small rooms - but we heard later that they went off home at around 6 a.m.
Extra photo, our lovely Airbnb guests.
The rest of the day is a daze - must have involved left-overs, food and drink.
