The mystery of the Christmas tree.

It being 12th night the Christmas decorations have been taken down.

Stripping the tree of its baubles brought to mind a Christmas past when we had a guest from Thailand. He asked me, with a puzzled look,  as to the significance of the various decorations hanging on our tree. Well where do you start? 

This particular bauble, bought at a Christmas Fair at Castle Howard consists of a glass winged-fairy, with a wand, in a sphere of lustrous glass. Any thoughts on the deep significance of such an object? On closer inspection the fairy seems to have a halo which, I guess makes her an angel. But how to explain what an angel is?
