Ledbury

Saturday
This morning we went for a wander round the picturesque historic town of Ledbury with Peter and Judy. It has a significant number of timber-framed buildings, in particular along Church Lane and High Street. One of the most outstanding is the Market House, at the foot of Church Street, built in 1617. Ledbury was home to poet Elizabeth Barret Browning, and was also the birthplace of poet laureate John Masefield. St. Michael & All Angels Church is regarded as being the finest non-monastic church in Herefordshire. It is one of seven churches in Herefordshire to have a separate bell tower, an 18th century spire on a 13th century tower. This beautiful vast church is mostly 13th & 14th century with Anglo-Saxon origins. It contains some Norman work and among its most notable features is a fine twelfth century west door.
